Has anyone here done the Mobay VIP? Is it worth the money?

Many do use this service and love it. I have never tried it but might in October, it will all depend on how many flights are landing in the time frame of my flight which I will research when it gets closer to departure.
2 years ago Immigration was a nightmare when we arrived! But this was the first time ever we waited more than 30 minutes to get thru immigration.

Last year when we went in April it wasnt really bad, but that was April. This year we are going over July 4th week, so I am thinking it might be a good choice. We land at 1230 pm on July 2nd.

I'm going to use it in October but just on my arrival there to avoid a long customs lineup. You never know if you get three or four planes landing at the same time it could be quite a wait.

You can purchase it for your arrival there or just departure from there or you can bundle it to do both.

I know people who swear by it and say it's great!

People that recommend it do you also recommend if the cost was times 5? $400 is that worth it.

Do you think a weekday at 2pm is a busy arrival time in July?

Not sure about your first line - maybe a typo. The costs (in USD) is $50 for arrival service, $30 for departure service and the two bundled together are $80.

Funny that, usually a bundle gets you 2 or more distinct services at a reduced cost. ie: Private transfers from CUN to the GPRM for one. Cable TV and Internet service is another.

Besides that, you can sort of gain prior knowledge of the "immigration" crowd by finding your flight arrival on the MBJ website at the same-week-of-the-day, quite a ways before you do actually arrive and see what other flights are in at/near the same time. Pretty much will be the same data for that day over a long period of time. A good website (or savvy web searching) will also show you the type of aircraft as well.
A whack of 777 or 333 from <wherever> will be very different than a flock of 737 or 319 that carry far less pax.

Of course, flight delays, staffing issues, etc. can muck up that plan big time. So it's quite akin to the choice of taking the package included bus transfer or booking private. Always a crap-shoot to how it may turn out. Harry said it best, "do ya feel lucky, punk?"

That being said, I have saved the link from Leslie for future reference as the GPLH is on our radar.

Leslie,

I was asking if 50 plus the 30 so $80 is worth it for a family of 5. So it would be $400. Do want to get to hotel quicker but $400 is a nice excursion.

My second question was independent of the first. I was just curious on arrivals at 2pm mid week. Thank you for the info I will check it out. Not something I usually look into.

Thank you all.

Ahhh sorry Kathy, I get it now!

Personally, I'm just going to book it for when I arrive basically just to avoid the possible lineup at customs. I'm not interested in eating or drinking a lot before I get on the plane to come home.

It wouldn't hurt to see what flights come in around 2 pm midweek and that could help your decision.

As I had mentioned above, (and should have posted this before, sorry about that) this link:

http://www.flightstats.com/go/FlightSta ... ueryType=1

while not the official MBJ airport site, gives a more searchable way to suss out flight arrivals and if you scroll down, you'll see the aircraft details. If you are not overly familiar with the various equipment, you can use SeatGuru or the actual airline Fleet details to see all the pax capacities.

Based on April 26 as a "mid-week" day, there seems to be a notable uptick of 9 potential flight arrivals in that "1 to 2 pm" window. Hope your actual day goes much easier.

Yeah we decided to get the Mobay VIP, there are about 10 flights landing between 11:30 and 1:00. I have a feeling that will be a long wait in line.

I am surprised by some of these wait times. In our 8 trips to Jamaica since 2013 we have never been in line at customs for more then 10 minutes so we never bother with VIP.

Ontario people what airline are you flying on? We only use Westjet and since the machines were installed are always are able to go through that line and not deal with any lining up in the other lines. These machines are not an option if you are flying with kids under 18 as then you have to go through the normal line and deal with a person.
