Changes?

Post by cactusrose » Mon Sep 09, 2019 3:09 pm

I know you have to take the "Trip Advisor" reviews with a grain of salt but I just finished reading a review (Colonial) there where the poster stated a few interesting changes:

1- stated they originally had booked Kantenah but were switched to Colonial because staff told them it was due to "refurbishments" there.

2- no more lighted buzzers being used at the ala cartes so they weren't able to go to the lobby and have a drink while waiting.

3- no more "pop up" bars in the lobbies.

Anyone know if these are true? Just curious.

The only one I have heard of was #3, someone mentioned about no pop up bars I think on Facebook.

TRS Yucatan is only allowing us to choose a Bottle of Liquor per person instead of the usual 4 bottles. Not sure if it is a new policy or because we are staying less then a week.

We were just at GP RM in August. Didn't see any of lighted buzzers at the à la carte restos; we had to hang around the entrance and wait to be called up by the hostess if the table wasn't ready right away. Didn't see any pop-up bars in any of the Kantenah/Colonial/White Sand lobbies, but we did see a popup tequila bar in the inner atrium of the TRS.

I wonder why? That doesn't make sense! :58: :40: It's a shared small waiting room between each set of two ala cartes! There wasn't enough room when they WERE using the buzzer system. This new way has guests all jammed in or waiting outside of the door in the entranceway. People with reservations will need to pry their way past the crowd to get in. :16:

Thanks so much for replying to my questions! Oh and WELCOME!!! :1:

That could be. My wish list form specified no bottle limit at all. I just picked 4 though. But staying over a week.

Hi everyone...
We are just back from the Colonial after 2 weeks. Never saw any pop up bars at all.
Our first night we went to El Dorado and yes, the "waiting bar" as they are referred to, was crammed. No buzzers in sight. No seats available, and very little room to manoeuvre. We waited about 25 minutes before being seated, we were warned that it might be that long so we didn't mind. We could have sat in the lobby and went back 20 minutes later but we decided to stay. To be fair it wasn't too long before people started to get tables and some more space became available so it wasn't too bad.
Incidentally, it was worth the wait 😉.

Trees...😁

We were there in early August and missed the pop up bars. They were a great place to try the different brands. The only night we saw one(Tequila of course) was Saturday in the Colonial Lobby for Mexican night.

We always made reservations but never saw anyone with a pager. The number of people hovering around the hostess was definitely more and seemed more anxious.

I just got back yesterday. Stayed in Kantenah building 48. Building 45 was closed and major sounding construction was going on the whole 10 days I was there so the referb sounds accurate. Only pop up bar I saw was on Mexican night. I did see a stack of buzzers charging but not being used. I don't remember what restaurant that was at. I was able to make reservations. This was my 8th trip got my gold bracelet. I was told by guest services that only TRS and gold are allowed to make reservations. No more for the less than 8 visits.

Thanks for the info. on the construction noise at Kantenah villa #45. Kantenah was refurbished (room décor and a bit in the bathrooms) at the end of 2012. It was 10 years from the original construction of Kantenah (2002). So yes time for a refreshing but personally I hope they aren't going to start "modernizing" the rooms. We love the traditional Mexican feel. If they are, I hope they keep some of the original ambiance but usually just changing décor doesn't involve a lot of construction noise! :34:

I hope all of the Addicts here read this info. Many of us have replied recently and in the past in our posts about how if it's a guest's 4th trip they usually can get 3 ala carte reservations and 6-7 trips they'll usually receive 5 reservations (at managements discretion but it almost is always given). :54:

Just read over on the GP Facebook page that the gold band VIP bracelet no longer includes the CHIC Cabaret dinner show. Glad we got to see it last year. Does anyone know if they are still selling tickets to the show outside of guests of the Grand Palladium resort (public)?

That was my review Cactus (well my wifes really)... :61:

1- stated they originally had booked Kantenah but were switched to Colonial because staff told them it was due to "refurbishments" there.
When we arrived from UK we were knackered and it was only when we were in the cart to the room that it dawned on me we were heading to colonial and not kantenah so asked to be taken back to reception, we caused a bit of fuss as had sent a room request for a high floor in Kantenah, they offered to change room the following morning but were unable to relocate us to another room as they had computer problems but did say they could only relocate us to another colonial room - as it happens we loved the ground floor and being able to watch the wildlife from the balcony and would choose it again in future - next morning they did have a top floor room for us and were very apologetic.

2- no more lighted buzzers being used at the ala cartes so they weren't able to go to the lobby and have a drink while waiting.
They were still on display just not in use, couldnt work out why as at times the bars between ala cartes were very busy. (They weren't using these on our trip last August either)

3- no more "pop up" bars in the lobbies.
only time we saw one was for the mexican show and it shut before the show ended.

Looks like tickets can still be purchased for $100.00 per person for guests booking from the "outside" and non-TRS guests staying at the resort who do not book thru the resort's website.

There is a 20% off discount offered to guests when reserving in advance when booking their accommodations thru the resort's website. So cost will be $80.00 per person then.

Just to clarify my original post (and reply) about wondering if Kantenah had started room renovations. Kenia just replied back to me and confirmed that the construction noise heard for the week that one of the Addicts was there was simply all doors being replaced in the villas there. They are just about done. Not sure if it's exterior or interior.

Just heard back that Churchill’s Bar is currently smoking (like it was originally). When the renovation is over it will become non-smoking indoors and the terrace will be for smoking. :1: :63:
