Any November 2020 travelers?

Post by cdq85 »

My original booking for this year was back in June which was pushed to August. That trip was pushed to November and is now set for the 14-21st. I've been keeping my eye on the webcams and it certainly seems like they are prepping for the re-opening. I have seen the Colonial pool being drained to now refilled and blue. The other pool looked like it was being maintained as well. The resort must be pretty booked for November because I lost my reservation at the TRS section and had to go to the Romance Villas. Not a big deal but I was hoping that was a positive sign for the resort being open. Anyone else making the November trip???

It all comes down to what is going on with the local area COVID restrictions as the tentative opening date of the resort draws nearer. Right now the resorts that are open in the area are restricted to 30% occupancy. The GPRM has to plan now based on no occupancy restrictions. They are accepting all reservations made starting Nov.1st. Fingers crossed that it will happen. Probably why you got bumped to the Romance villa accommodations. Time will tell!

Not sure who has reservations for Nov. Hopefully people will start posting as the date gets closer.

I moved my cancelled May trip to November, but I'm still up in the air on whether I'll go. I WANT to go, but I'm considered high-risk and am not sure about tempting fate. And, in all honesty, I don't know if I want to deal with a ton of restrictions. I understand the need for them, but am not sure if I'd enjoy myself enough to make it worth it.

Had October resv. for TRS. We got the offer to keep the same dates but switch to Costa Mujeres or stay at TRS but switch to Novermber date (or later). All at no charge, same agreement (since I booked straight with Palladium). So my tentative date is Nov 12. HOWEVER, we're taking a wait and see stance here and figuring a few things.
1. Reported Covid statistics here in Mexico are climbing. But with very little testing in the country, the real statistics are much more extreme.
2. I still have to take a plane to the Yucatan, so there's that whole thing.
3. As I see other resorts and pictures, people seem to pretty much do what they want. No masks no protection, no distancing.
4. Regardless of the excellent practices of the Palladium, let's face it, its going to be a different experience. And it tells you something when local beaches are closed to residents but somehow its ok for resorts to have them open.

So, I'm not saying i'm cancelling just yet. After all, its not everytime I get TRS for $170 a night. And yeah, I know, everyone is different and has different outlooks. I'm just noting what we're considering. Still got plenty of time to see what develops (good or bad)

I was planning to book a trip for early November, but with the slow opening of Costa Mujeres I am concerned about how much will be open. We were just there a few weeks ago and we had a great time, it was just awkward compared to the usual Palladium experience.

I think we will end up booking a Romance Villa, i am just hoping they will notify us if these are not available before we get there. I understand that with 30% occupancy or less it would not be feasible for them to keep all the buildings open.

We are scheduled for the Kantenah for 10 days beginning 2 Nov. Another couple also arriving same time. We are really looking forward to returning to our favorite vacation spot after cancelling June and October trips. Kobe, just curious if the buffets were open and protocol was same when you were at Costa Mujeres?

Hey Toastman! I had reservations for September for TRS for only $3700 MXN a night as well. However when I asked about changing to November I was told that I could either switch it for same dates same cost to TRS Coral or if I wanted to switch it to November I would have to pay the updated cost which is now around $5500 a night. I switched to the Coral and kinda looking forward to it since we have never been.

Just like you we live in Mexico and getting there would involve a bus ride and a flight to Mexico city and then another flight to Cancun.
We are stuck at waiting and seeing as well and will make the final decision just days before our flight. The beaches look lovely without so many people, however you are right about guests wandering around resorts without masks. Almost all of these guests are either Mexicans or Americans where the cases are high. Where I live in SLP however, I am just as much at risk of getting the virus as in the Rivera Maya. Probably more since mask wearing is not being enforced and 6 out of 10 people here do not bother to wear masks even in the face of the growing cases and deaths in the area.

I've watched videos of the 80s parties and white parties at the Coral. They are dead. The resort still has not hired Conclasse or Goldensounds either. Looks like alot of the fun we were used to be having will not be happening. If they rehired the live music bands that would definitely heavily lean me towards going. If we don't go now who knows when we can go again? Already had to cancel my trip to the resort in May and we havent been to the beach since last September. We are only three weeks away.

The buffet Posiedon was open but not the larger buffet Isla Blanca, but I understand it is now open. At all restaurants you were required to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer before they seated you. You had to wear a mask entering and walking thru the buffet area. At the buffet you would get one of the chefs to walk you thru the choices and they add it to your plate. There was also some individual plate you could grab on your own. Not at all bad and the upside was I did not over eat too much.

Had reservations for 2 weeks at end of November. Had to cancel because I could not get travel insurance and I was getting the run around from the Canadian airlines. Coupled with the increase in Mexican cases of Covid, I think I will wait until May (not sure which year!)

I highly suggest everyone make sure they have their own travel insurance besides what may be provided.
