Renovations if any in 2020-21

Post by Lon »

I have read a few reviews regarding the rooms being in need of an upgrade (Kantenah romance suites) Just wondering if anyone may have been on the GP property in 2020 / 2021 and observed any room renos while you were there? Which buildings?
We are considering Dec 2021 and I would like to know the property is being kept up.
Cheers

Do you mean renovation or repair. We booked a Romance Suite for our trip this past November but we were transferred to White Sands because the Kantenah section was not open. I think the Kantenah Romance suites were not open specifically because it looked like the sustained some damage from last summers hurricanes. You could see some of the thatch missing from their roofs.
The last time we stayed in the rooms was November 2018 and we loved them. The decor was perfect for Mexico and everything in our room worked as it was supposed to.
Maybe someone else will know better about their future plans but I don't think any rooms will be renovated for awhile. The resort is concentrating on fixing up after the hurricane and slowly opening up sections as more people come back.

Thanks for the reply. I was watching a recent visitor video review and they commented on the condition of the bathroom and the mattress.
They mentioned the fact that the Kantenah is the oldest section and could or will need a touch up and replacement of wear items.
I would not want to suggest our group stay in Kantenah, only to have many trying to switch out for rooms that are in better shape.
My agent is looking into this for me.

The Kantenah has been closed for several months now due to very low occupancy caused by COVID. The Palladium itself is a large complex comprised of four resorts. Currently only the TRS Yucatan (adult only) and the White Sand resort sections are open. Occupancy in Jan. and Feb. was around 18%. As occupancy increases they will most likely be re-opening Colonial and then Kantenah. No one knows yet when that will be happening. Currently If guests have reservations for Kantenah/Colonial they will be moved to the White Sand resort. The Colonial did open just their Romance suites in the last month or so. They aren't located directly on the beach, like Kantenah Romance suites, are but are very close to the large main pool.

As far as renovations, there hasn't been anything announced and most likely won't be this year with the current COVID situation and the loss of revenue it caused. So many resorts have been effected and still are.

Kantenah was renovated in 2012 and Colonial in 2014. Both resort sections were built in 2002 with White Sand and Riviera (now turned into the TRS Yucatan in 2016) built in 2005. We have been going to Kantenah since 2007 and love the Romance suites. You walk out the door and you are in the beach. Much quieter section and less people.

Yes Kantenah rooms are showing wear but the Romance suite is a great layout and is large. We personally don't spend much time in the room so it doesn't bother us. We are outside just about all day long on the beach. The resort is gorgeous and kept up as it always is. Beautiful setting in the "jungle". Ambiance is wonderful.

We have reservations for both May and Dec. I'm sure by Dec. the Kantenah will be opened and the entire Palladium resort will return to it's pre-COVID days!
