The weather was fantastic, rained only in evening when we were sleeping, only one partly cloudy day the whole week. Can t ask for better weather.
We arrived after zipping through customs at the airport, we had bought our 10.00$ entry online. Our private transport from travel club was waiting for us and brought our party of 7 to the convention center for our private check in. They gave us the 4 rooms in building 83 like I had asked but we did have to change one room to building 84 to get a one bed instead of a two bed (deluxe room). Champagne , chocolate truffles and fruit basket were waiting in our rooms for us. The air conditioner was working well and rooms were nice and cool when we arrived. We never had a problem with air in all the 4 rooms. We all had renovated rooms. We had a loft in 8316 with a partial view of ocean to the right of balcony on second floor. Double deluxe room in 8313, two beds had an ocean view also, top floor. Room 8302 one bed , ground floor , facing building 84. And room 8406 two beds , no ocean view, ground floor. We were all a short walk away from the beach. Close to the main pool and lobby. We loved where we were situated. The wifi in the rooms was non existant, they said they were having trouble with it. It worked slowly in the lobby.
Ate at buffet of Palace section for supper the first night, also had breakfast there every morning. Service was great with Alex waiting for us every a.m... Sweet young man , very cheerful and always happy to see us and wait on us.
We ate at Sumpturi cooking show with Carlos , very very entertaining young man. The food was great and we all had a fun time. We did go back for supper there another evening but at the sushi bar, most delicious sushi was what everyone said, fantastic service again. Carlos kept coming over to see us, what a funny guy.
We also ate at Tapeo , the food was very different but very good nonetheless, service was great also. We had steak at the mexican restaurant and that was very good with a fast and pleasant service. The Brazilian was very good also and service was fast, waiters made us laugh and we all had a fun time. The Italian was the restaurant that had the slowest service. We had ordered lobsters and we waited almost two hours to have it served to us. Not quite sure why it took so long for the lobster, but when the others at the table received their plates, they were cold. We didn't let this ruin our night, we had great company, good beverages and the waitress was very friendly and she gave us good service but started to get annoyed that the meal was taking so long and thought we would feel it was her fault which we did not . The lobster was overcooked so we decided not to order any lobster again during our stay. The rest of the meal was ok. This was our least favorite supper but all because of the wait and the terrible lobster.
We had a good laugh about it later. One out of seven ain't so bad after all. Lol!!
The travel club beach area is wonderful and that is where we spent most of our days in the sun, Denis the young lady was very friendly and gave a great service day after day. We loved it there. In late afternoon we would finish off at the Palace main pool until we'd retire to our rooms to relax from relaxing all day haha!! We got ready for supper and would finish off in the lobby and listen to the great music that was played, they were really entertaining and service was great also. Everyone we met was friendly and happy. Really no problems with the staff at this resort. This was our second time there, the first time we were in the Bavaro section.
We almost always had lunch right next to TC at the Arrecife buffet. Good food , good service.
My oldest daughter has celiac disease and was impressed with how they took the matter seriously and made sure she was served only gluten-free meals. Even at the cooking show when my youngest daughter offered her leftover sushi the waiter ran over and pointed out the soya sauce was not gluten free before she even attempted to touch it. They really did take this seriously. The chef at the arrecife would come and bring out her plate to her personally. She did not suffer from any gluten the whole week there.. Nevertheless, we all did get a day of tummy troubles at some point, except for two of us, but that is expected when travelling. It happens every few trips to a few of us.
We did the buggy tour and enjoyed the cenote and Macao beach was beautiful. We did not think the tour guide was very friendly and any fun, the pics and video are way too expensive, we ended up just buying the regular photo cd for $40.00 US and got great pics. We split it 7 ways and made copies for everyone. If you take that tour bring your own bandana to tie around your face while buggy riding to keep mud and exhaust fumes away, they sell them $5.00 US a piece, we bought them here 2 for $1.25 canadian at dollarama.
Bring your waterproof camera , really nice pics to capture especially on the beautiful beach. We didn t bring ours and regret it but we did bring a Gopro for the buggy ride.
At the resort, the logo shop had hardly anything to buy with our Palladium money so that was a bummer because we had $400.00 to spend (4 rooms)so we bought a few things there and paid our lobster and brought back some bottles of wine with the rest. They seem to have less at the logo shop everytime we go, they shouldn't call it the Logo Shop as only probably 3% of the entire shop is logo items.
All in all we had a wonderful time and will be back when the Canadian dollar is worth more. Sad to say but it makes a difference booking with the travel club at this rate, so we will probably have to try out some other places after being going to the palladium for so many times (15 or 16 times) now. We are travel club members and Palladium addicts and hope to be for a long time.
