Upon arrival we were greeted by the smiling face of Tomas and his hat of many souvenir pins. Our welcome began with hugs and handshakes with our Dominican family in the Royal Suites lobby. During the registration we were also greeted by the fantastic lobby and front desk staff (refreshing towels and champagne were provided during the check-in period). Our rooms were not yet ready; so we proceeded to the Royal Gourmet for a leisurely lunch (Duck, seafood) and then a quick trip to view the Bavaro Beach.
The Beach and the Ocean.
I am a beach person, so the Palladium beach area is paramount for a great vacation. I walk the beach and enjoy the ocean every day. During our 10 days were encountered unusually strong winds and wave action (more so than normal. Few people were able to make use of the “floaties” in the ocean. Seaweed, present most days, was cleaned up regularly by the beach support staff. The waves reduced the beach walking area between the tree line and the ocean.
The main Royal Suites pool and the Adults pool were clean and well populated. The towel game was evident at both pools. I thoroughly enjoyed the heated adult pool, especially at night. There is a towel hut (behind the bar by the washrooms), but it is not open at night. The renovations made to the Swim-up area pools are lovely (new wooden decking, new pool tiling).
While some of the main pool staff remain the same, the lobby bar staff has changed. Some of the employees can be found at Palace lobby bar. I enjoyed the Jazz player, who entertained us most nights as we enjoyed an after-dinner nightcap. As always, our Royal bar family were friendly and very knowledgeable. Thank you Danny, Gabina, Sandy, and all the others who made Punta Cana a fantastic experience. The Imperial rum was mixed with a wide variety of juices and liquids to produce unique libations.
A la Cartes.
Le Chanterelle (Royal Suites) is still the best a la carte at the resort for service and cuisine. Try the Chateaubriand for two, accompanied by the Cheese fondue. The Crepes Suzette is by far the best dessert at the resort. The beef and seafood selections at the Royal Gourmet (Royal Suites) are delicious. Other favourite a la cartes include the Rodizio (Brazilian: Palace) where a variety of barbequed meats and pineapple are presented on skewers and sliced at your table. The Tapeo (Spanish: Bavaro) presents 15 tapis selection, as well as a wide assortment of appetizers. The Steakhouse (Punta Cana) is a must for the beef lover.
Honeymoon Suite: Room 5142
Building 51 provides the visitor with a central location to the beach section of the Royal Suites Turquesa and a lovely ocean view. This building is attached to the lobby and faces the main Royal pool. The Honeymoon Suite is perfect for the newlyweds, those celebrating a special anniversary, and others who wish a large room with a great view of the ocean. Everything about this room is fantastic … starting with two tubs (one inside as well as the jacussi tub on the large balcony); the décor; the large shower; and ending with a king sized bed. The closet area has ample space for suitcase storage as well as clothes storage (hanging, drawers) for extended stays. The maid service was great, as was the minibar, liquor and winebar (additional charge) service. If you have forgotten items contact the front desk; items may be available through housekeeping.
The Royal Suites Butlers did an excellent job satisfying all of our requests. I never met a Butler who did not have a welcoming smile or a friendly “Hola” greeting. Melky deserves a Special “Gracias” for making our stay extra special. If you have a concern, ask your building Butler. Often they can solve concerns and provide useful information.
We return in February 2016. We are truly Palladium Addicted.
