We have returned from our 8th trip to the Grand Palladium resort in Jamaica. We had a great trip as usual which is why we keep returning over and over. This trip was in their low season so occupancy was very down. Even though there were restaurants closed over the week due to the low number, this resulted in no waits at the ala cart restaurants.
We were not celebrating anything this trip, so we were indeed surprised when the Smiles team, with Philippa doing the planning, created two days of events. We arrived back to our room on Wednesday night to find an invitation on our dresser inviting us to the Wedding gazebo the following afternoon. As we progressed further into our room we noticed rose petals – some leading into the bathroom and some into our bedroom. (We were in a one bedroom suite.) In the bathroom we found the Jacuzzi filled with hot water, bubble bath and rose petals. The next day we met Philippa at the Wedding gazebo as requested. She had a bottle of Pink Moscato wine chilling and two plates of chocolates and macaroons. Balloons and rose petals decorated the floor around three chairs and music was playing. Philippa had arranged for a character artist, Emerald Easy, to draw a character of us. He used markers for his drawing so there was no making a mistake! He did a great job as we sipped our wine. The Smiles team had never hired an artist before so this was a first.
The pools and ocean were warm this time of the year and we had mostly late afternoon showers, but by the time the clouds rolled in we were ready for relief from the sun. The food was excellent and if you get a chance, try the filet mignon at the Mexican restaurant. It was delicious. Our room was kept clean by Dillis on her days to work. As we have had her before she remembered that we liked our room cleaned early as we tend to head in late afternoon to get ready for dinner. We had a couples 50 minute relax massage at the Spa. It was the best massage I have ever had. If you want to splurge for lobster, get it at the Poseidon Restaurant. It was tender, moist and delicious.
We always like to thank some staff for going out of their way to make our stay feel like home. Kerissa Bauld ( Customer Relations) , Philippa ( Smile Team) , Andrea Stevens (Coral Pool Bartender), Glendon Foster (Coral Pool Attendant), Corita Martin (Accommodations Manager), Ingrid Slater-Finlayson (Corita’s assistant), Garth James (Customer Relations Manager), and Dwight Spence (Night manager). We also had the pleasure of a sit down talk with Mr. Enrico Pezzoli (General Manager) who welcomed us and was happy talk with us about the good things at the resort and the things needed improvement. We enjoyed meeting Mr. Pezzoli.
Ms. Lou’s coffee café was closed for renovations all but the last two days we were there but it looks like a new and improved version will be available. They installed a much larger coffee machine to serve more people at once. The new furniture will arrive in November. We were informed that renovations to the Jamaica side of the resort will begin in May 2020 without a lot of interruptions to the operation of the resort.
We are looking forward to booking our next trip to Jamaica. Go and enjoy. Remember everyone’s experience is different and it is what you make of it.
