TRS upgrade

Post by Adamfamily »

Well after return trip number 8 this will probably be the last trip.
The resort rooms are looking very old and tired.
After a major room fiasco we upgraded to TRS and must say it is Not worth the money.
Wish the resort would of done more to help us out but that did not happen.
The room pictures would disgust most people.
Sure wish they would do some renovations on the rooms.

I love TRS and find it worth it, but everyone will have their own take on it. You don't say what section you were originally staying in. Kantenah is next in line for room updates, and I'm sure they do need it.

We were in colonial.
We did the Diamond Club with Royalton in Negril and it was night and day difference on the service.

The TRS rooms are new, so what didn't you like about them?
If its the lack of privacy in the bathrooms, that I could understand.
Otherwise they are beautiful, the beds are super comfortable and there is plenty of space to put your belongings.

It was not the TRS room. It was the room in the Colonial.
Wish I could post pictures.

It was the colonial room. It was disgusting to say the least.

Sorry your room was bad in Colonial. We take your word for it. You did get quite an upgrade though if they bumped you up to TRS.

Was it just the quality of the room?
Did you not enjoy the landscaping and the jungle paths and onsite mangrove, and wildlife?
Most resorts are just Concrete and landscaping.
How about the entertainment at the resort?
In its defense the Colonial is not the Luxury brand Hotel. The TRS is.
It is a mid range all inclusive family resort. We have seen far wose hotels in that price range.

I guess a better choice, as it turns out, would have been to move to White Sand. The rooms are lovely there and not as pricey an upgrade as TRS. I don't know when they're scheduled to do an upgrade on Kantenah and Colonial, but hopefully it's in the near future. I do agree the rooms, at least some of them over on that side, need an update.

Rule of thumb for most resorts, as far as renovations go, the average is about every 10 years. I've heard this all over at various levels of resorts we have stayed in over the years. They're not going to renovate every few years. They wouldn't be able to afford it. Kantenah was renovated in 2012 so probably will not be up for renovations until the next two years. Colonial was done in 2014 and White Sand was done in 2015. Yes they are all showing wear and tear which is to be expected with thousands of people using the rooms over that time period. If it was so bad why are you coming back or are you booking TRS this time? If it is your 8th trip to the resort you will get the VIP bracelet and be able to stay in any of the three finally resorts and be able to use most of the facilities and perks of TRS.

We have stayed there and the level was always very good.
Hence why we returned. But this time the room was a disaster.
The bed looked like a murder scene.
And the treatment we got from that room was terrible.
Offered to move us to another room that night and that room had not been cleaned.
It had cigar buts on the dresser and all the towels left in the room.
Hence not cleaned for someone to stay.
Needless to say it was 1:00 in the morning when we finally got a room for the night.
And as far as TRS which we had to pay to go to was again NOT worth the money.
We did not get a VIP bracelet as they do not have any way to track your visits.
And that came directly from the manager.

Their computer system was changed several years ago and the new system does have a way of tracking guests visits. If you came to the resort before the change over then you do need to bring proof if possible of dates or confirmation numbers of your reservations. Last year was our eighth visit and we qualified for a VIP bracelet. When we checked in we never had any proof with us and they automatically gave us the VIP gold bracelet. Our first trip was in 2007. The guest needs to be aware and keep track of how many visits and let the reception know either before they arrive or at check-in. Sorry you had such a bad time last visit this will be our ninth trip coming up and we have never had anything even close to that.
It definitely is not the norm! If you read other resort reviews along the Riviera Maya here on TripAdvisor and click on the "poor" or "terrible" review settings, you will see it happens there also.
